Sampe Festival

Join us at the Plimoth Grist Mill as we celebrate the harvest season. Come visit on October 11 and 12 for our second annual Sampefest. Sampe, or grits, was a dietary staple of both the Wampanoag people and English colonists. We’ll be grinding sampe and cornmeal on Saturday and Sunday. Watch as the millers move our 2,200 pound stone into place and direct the waterpower from Town Brook to start the milling process. Highlights include: Live music, food vendors, family activities, and hands-on fun for all ages.

Second Annual Sampe Fest at the Plimoth Grist Mill

WHAT: Sampe is ground corn, much like grits, and was a dietary staple of both the Pilgrims and Native Wampanoag people. Plimoth Plantation will host Sampe Fest on October 11 and 12, 2014. Join us as we revel in all things corn with fall-themed activities and yummy corn-inspired dishes. Watch the Miller move the 2,200 pound stone, harness the power of the Town Brook and grind corn. Highlights include: Live music, crafts for kids, hands-on activities, delicious treats from local vendors including cider doughnuts and stuffed cornmeal flatbread sandwiches. Guests can even meet one of Plimoth Plantation's rare breed goats.  

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DETAILS: Tickets are $6.00 and $4.50 for children.

The Descendant walking tour of Old Plymouth Massachusetts
Join a genuine descendant from the Mayflower, Wampanoag Indians and the Salem Witch Trials for a tour of old Plymouth and hear the oral traditions passed down from father to son.  The tour is led by Kristian Pedersen, a native of the South Shore, who is writing and producing a TV Pilot that follows his genealogy through major historical events.  Kristian takes you on a tour of Plymouth history with stories that bring the past to life.

Start the celebration early!  A special part of Opening Night includes a pre-concert soiree reception at nearby Pilgrim Hall Museum.  Socialize amid the museum collection while enjoying tasty hors d'oeuvres and an array of refreshing cocktails. Contemporary acrylic paintings by Leslie Trewyn and  sculptural ceramics and  jewelry created by Pat Reiher fill the gallery.

The Mayflower Collection - Select Deaccession Auction

J. James Auctioneers & Appraisers is honored to present the “Mayflower Society Collection”, to be offered for sale at auction November 8th , 2014. This auction is a select museum deaccession of pieces currently displayed at The Mayflower Society House, built in 1754 by Edward Winslow, in historic Plymouth Massachusetts. The collection contains a diverse array of rare and unique items including important 17th and 18th Century American Furniture, Art , Books , Documents, Artifacts and Americana. The sale will offer antiques spanning the globe and over three centuries of our history, including many pieces with local provenance, closely tied to generations of Pilgrim descendants and their families. The collection itself began with the first acquisition in 1946 and grew over the ensuing fifty years. Everything offered in this sale is new to market and represents a wonderful and rare opportunity. Proceeds will benefit the Mayflower Society and aid their ongoing mission to preserve the Pilgrim legacy.
