Jerry W. Pearson of Young Wooldridge presents -- “Walking Through the Minefield: Managing and Surviving the Ever Challenging World of Leaves of Absences”

Whether it is dealing with an employee on FMLA or an industrially injured worker, employers are facing more challenging issues and obligations under California leave laws each day. Dealing with employees in a manner that avoids liability is essential to managing risk in today’s increasingly litigious society. Business owners and risk managers must have a firm grasp on principles such as types of leaves, reasonable accommodation, permanent and stationary, the interactive process and the cross over between workers’ compensation leaves and obligations under the ADA and FEHA.

Provides a basis for the Chamber to act on local, state and federal government issues, works to create a favorable business climate, reviews city, county, state and federal legislation for Board positions. Meets every other Friday at 7:30 a.m. and once a month for a mid-week lunch.

Works toward enhancing public awareness of the importance of the energy industry to the community's economy. Provides a forum for identifying and discussing common issues and concerns affecting the industry and consumers, and provides counsel to the Chamber board on these issues. Meets third Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m.

All booths include a 10 foot wide by 8 foot deep space. The booths will have an 8 foot high drape along the back and a three foot high drape on both sides.

Public relations for the Chamber, welcoming new businesses to the community at groundbreaking, ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremonies. Organizes and facilitates events where Chamber members network in a social atmosphere that also provides a forum for member businesses to showcase their locations, products and services. Meets the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Coordinates an event that promotes the city and the people of Bakersfield. A banquet and awards presentation focus on the positive attributes of Bakersfield's business and citizens. Meets monthly for approximately nine months a year on the first Wednesday of each month at 11:45 a.m.
