In 1928, a group of Minot laboring citizen (mostly railroad men) began to investigate the possibilities of organizing a cooperative oil company. They had been trying to operate a cooperative store and when it became a stock company instead of a cooperative and failed, the original promoters began to look at the very high margins in petroleum products. They found that gasoline cost 4 cents per gallon plus 7 cents freight and that it was selling for 25 cents to 27 cents per gallon. This group invited several farmers to join them and in 1928 they incorporated under the name of the Minot Cooperative Oil Company. On June 28, 1928 the incorporators met, adopted By-Laws, and elected a Board of Directors. In July 1928 the North Dakota Farmers Union put their stamp of approval on the new cooperative.

Today Enerbase’s service area ranges from the Washburn area all the north to Glenburn, where they have a c-store.  They own and operate ten Cenex-branded c-stores (seven in Minot, one in Ryder, one in Washburn and one in Glenburn), offer bulk petroleum, lubricant and propane sales and delivery.  Enerbase also has full-service agronomy centers in Washburn and Hazen, and anhydrous locations in Falkirk and Underwood. The cooperative also operates a service center in Minot that services cars to semi-trucks. Gooseneck Implement is a farm and ranch equipment dealership with 13 locations in North and South Dakota. Beginning in 1974 in Kenmare, ND, Daryl Borud and Tom Burkett founded the dealership, and Kevin Borud then purchased it from his father in 1989 and is still with the company today. In 1998, Borud bought Ward County Implement in Minot. In 2004, Gooseneck expanded to Mohall, Lansford and Stanley. Velva, Harvey and Rugby joined the Gooseneck team in 2008. Mouse River Players is Minot’s oldest and most well-known community theatre, founded in 1973.  MRP provides quality theater experiences, at an affordable cost, to the community of Minot and its surrounding areas, and also provides acting workshops, script writing and dramatic events to nurture theatrical talents of all ages.  

Recently, The Mouse River Players purchased their first ever PERMANENT HOME, the former Labor Temple in Downtown Minot. (115 1st St. S.E.)  As part of an exciting renovation of Downtown Minot, MRP is proud to present their new location to the community as a resource center for arts, culture, public presentations, reception, rental space and more.  

MRP also does touring shows and workshops throughout the state and into Canada. Norsk Høstfest is North America's largest Scandinavian festival and takes place September 29 - October 3 at the ND State Fair Center. • Monday, July 22: KMOT Pride of Dakota Day - Visit with local entrepreneurs and shop products made exclusively in ND.
• Tuesday, July 23 is devoted to the families. ND United Family Day will consist of many activities for all ages throughout the day.
• Wednesday, July 24 is KX/Co-Op Day. Enjoy a free pancake breakfast in the morning and an ice cream social at 2 p.m. open to all.
• Thursday, July 25 is all about water, water, water! Join exhibitors for trivia games, prize drawings, and Frost Fest Snow Cones!
• Friday, July 26: ND One Call (811 Day) will provide demonstrations, fun giveaways, and educational opportunities.

This year’s 3 on 3 basketball tournament is open for registration. All in grades 5-12, as well as adults, can enter in this fun-filled event. The tournament will start at noon Friday, July 26 and continue Saturday, July 27 at 9 a.m.
The Hippity Hop Barrel race consists of the speed and agility of barrel racing…but on a hippity hop! This competition is for ages 2-6 (two age groups); limit 15 participants in each group.
The Tractor Pedal Pull, sponsored by United Community Bank, features kids ages 4-12 pedaling and pulling their miniature tractors to the finish line for a chance to qualify for the state sanctioned Tractor Pedal Pull Championship. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. in front of the KX Info Center on Tuesday, July 23.

Sing your heart out at the Crowd Pleaser’s Karaoke Contest on the Dakota Talent Stage. Any and all singers are welcome to sing a song of their choice at 7 or 10:45 p.m. daily. Registration takes place just minutes before the competitions start and prizes are awarded daily.

The Dakota Talent Stage is filled with music and talent each day of the Fair! Anyone hoping to perform on this stage can register for the days and times that fit best to their schedule.
