American Legion Post #160

The American Legion Post #160 was established on May 19, 1949 and is getting ready to celebrate its 70th year anniversary in Yukon.  Post #160 is one of 185 posts in Oklahoma, and the American Legion is the largest veterans organization in the United States.  Its members are very active, working together to support their local communities.  Their services are classified under the organization's four pillars:  1) Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation; 2) National Security; 3) Americanism; 4) Children and Youth.  Service examples include VA volunteers, charities, Boys State and oratorical competitions.

This legion's primary purpose can be summed up as "Veterans Helping Veterans, Families and Communities".  American Legion Post #160 is the home of the Yukon Veterans Museum.  It is involved in the semiannual national campaign of the "In Flanders Fields" Poppy Drive. The post is also involved in an annual police and firefighter appreciation award for the best Yukon police officer and firefighter as recognized by his or her peers.  Semiannual blood drives and veterans' children $1,000 scholarship to local graduating seniors are other valuable ways #160 supports the community.  The post has also an emergency veterans program and last, but not least, the Yukon Cemetary Veterans Burial Marker Recognition Program.

So the question is:  If you are a Yukon area veteran and not a member of this great patriotic organization, why not?  Contact Commander Eddie "Mac" McFadden at (405)265-2828.

Beautiful Day Foundation

beautifuldayfoundation.net

Beautiful Day’s original mission began with a simple statement to elementary school age kids: “The day you were born was a BEAUTIFUL DAY. Your life and existence are worthy of being celebrated.” We are passionate about telling children this important message. We want kids to know that they are seen and loved by the community they call home. Once a month we throw awesome birthday parties in elementary schools, celebrating every kid with a birthday that month. We gather community volunteers to sit with them and tell them face-to-face, “The day they were born was a BEAUTIFUL DAY!”
