The Roeper School is proud to announce that seniors Avery Long, son of Robert Long and Marlene Seltzer of Bloomfield Hills and Steven Raphael, son of Eric Raphael and Amy Barron of Birmingham have been selected as Semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Award

In addition, the following Roeper School seniors have been selected as Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program:

Blake Bottesi, son of David and Lisa Bottesi of Franklin

Hannah Byrne, daughter of Ken and Susan Byrne of Birmingham

Alexander Calderwood, son of Bert and Christina Calderwood of Rochester Hills

Richard Li, son of Feng Li and Rong Lu of Troy

Emma Wine, daughter of Larry and Emily Wine of Royal Oak

Students selected as Semifinalists and Commended students for the National Merit Scholarship awards scored in the top 5% on the PSAT.  Of these 5%, two-thirds are selected as Commended students and receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.  Although Commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.  The remaining one-third students have been notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists.  They are the highest scoring entrants in each state.  Semifinalists must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards in addition to other requirements.
