Wake up! What does this even mean? I wake up every morning? Nope, not that type of wake up. Wake up to a fresh perspective regarding living life as you are meant to. I like to start with the age old scriptural phrase of love your neighbor as yourself. That phrase could have been presented to the world without the words as yourself, unless that was intentional, which I know it was. Remember something very important about this phrase. You can only love someone to the degree that you love yourself. Another way to state that is, you can only accept love from someone to the degree you love yourself.  

Look at yourself in the mirror; look at your eyes and say, I LOVE YOU. Say this over and over while looking deep into your eyes. If this is a new process for you it may become very emotional. If it is not new then you already know the power of saying those three words to yourself. Put some emotions into expressing love to yourself. Be honest! Do this all the time for the next few days. Whenever you have a private moment, find a mirror, look in your eyes, and say I LOVE YOU.

After you are comfortable with saying I LOVE YOU, it will be time for a deeper understanding of how to wake up to this amazing exercise of connectiveness to yourself. Within your mind, think of a part of your personality that you do not like. One of those nagging sins or nagging memories that cause you to have negative or hateful feelings toward that portion of yourself. If you are a visual person, take time to see that part of yourself in action; if not visual, then imagine the emotions of that part of yourself. Do this for a few moments. Close your eyes and see this part of yourself that you hate, run from, hide from, repress all the time, or just can’t stand. Now! Open your eyes and tell that part of yourself, I LOVE YOU. Do this over and over again. Allow emotions to be open to this part of yourself. Express sincere love. If comfortable actually embrace yourself and say over and over, I LOVE YOU.  

The exercise above is a life long pursuit. As you become aware of certain aspects of your personality, others will then manifest. Yes, there is a lot of you hiding in the recesses of your mind. The I LOVE YOU exercise is therapeutic and empowering.
