A Salute to Our Veterans Gala

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore and The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce cordially invites you to join us on November 11, 2021 for “A Salute to our Veterans Gala.”

 

This event will celebrate and recognize the military men and women who have served our nation. It will also benefit the Silver Star Scholarship Fund at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The Silver Star Scholarship Fund was created to thank and acknowledge the many UMES students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends who have served our nation.

 

The scholarship benefits honorably discharged veterans of one of the United States Military branches of services, a child of a veteran, or a child of a service member killed in action. The Scholarship is specifically focused on an incoming freshman or transfer student pursuing their first undergraduate degree at UMES.

 

As in past years, this year’s gala will be held in the Richard A. Henson Conference Center Ballroom with the meal prepared by Thompson Hospitality and served by students in the UMES Hospitality and Tourism Management Program. The celebration will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:00 p.m. with dinner following at 7:00 p.m.

 

Military Formal Attire is encouraged for service personnel and business attire for other guests.

General Membership Luncheon

The SACC welcomes Joseph Bartenfelder, Secretary of Agriculture, as the featured speaker at the November 18, 2021 General Membership Luncheon.

Governor Larry Hogan appointed Joseph Bartenfelder to serve as Secretary of Agriculture on December 23, 2014. He was approved by the Senate and sworn in to office in March 2015. 

Mr. Bartenfelder grew up on a farm, and has been a full-time farmer and small businessman since graduating Towson University with a bachelor's degree in business. His family lives on the home farm in Caroline County, and also owns and operates two other farms in Dorchester County.

Bartenfelder served as a member of the Baltimore County Council, chaired the Baltimore County Spending Affordability Committee, and served as a member of the House of Delegates from 1983-94, representing District 8 (Baltimore County).

The luncheon will take place at Salisbury University, in the Guerrreri Academic Commons 4th Floor Assembly Hall and begin at 11:30AM.    Seating is limited and tickets must be reserved in advance.

Tickets are $25 for members, $35 for future members

    Ribbon Cutting-Eastern Shore Child Care Resource Center (SU)

    The Eastern Shore Child Care Resource Center (ESCCRC) is grant-funded as a child care resource center by the Maryland Family Network. 

    ESCCRC is an expansion of an earlier held grant housed at Salisbury University for almost 20 years that served the lower three counties of the Eastern Shore. 


    The ESCCRC provides resources child care providers:
     

    • a lending library, training opportunities, and coaching service
    • to families: assistance locating child care
    • to communities: by advocating for high-quality learning environments for children


    The newly-acquired counties permit the ESCCRC to support child care providers, families, and the community in all eight counties of the peninsula.

    General Membership Luncheon

    Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie Dykes will be the featured speaker at the SACC February 17, 2022 General Membership Luncheon.

     

    Join State's Attorney Dykes as she provides insight into the work of and strides made by the Prosecution Integrity Unit. The Prosecution Integrity Unit ensures integrity at every stage of the criminal justice system. Working closely with prosecutors and law enforcement, they prevent, identify, and remedy false convictions. 

     

    From ethical obligation training to developing internal checks and balances systems, the unit was created to be proactive in the prevention of misconduct and ensure every community member’s safety and confidence in our criminal justice system.

     

    State's Attorney Dykes will also discuss the ongoing challenges with the pandemic and the courts, the latest information on trends in local crime, prosecutions, and her collaborative efforts with state and federal law enforcement agencies.

    The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization dedicated to promoting a positive business environment and serving its members’ business interests through networking, education and advocacy.

     

    Chamber 101 invites new, not-so-new and future members to join us for networking and an interactive presentation on how to make the most of your Chamber investment.

     

    Who Should Attend? 

     

    This orientation is open to ALL members. We encourage new members to attend, but “experienced” members needing a refresher are also welcome!

     

    When Is Chamber 101?

     

    Chamber 101 takes place on the last Monday of every other month from 12:00 - 1:00 PM.

     

    Where Is Chamber 101?

     

    The lower level meeting room at the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, 200 E. Church Street, Salisbury, MD 21801 (park in the side lot)

    - Get connected: Ways to build relationships among Chamber members
    - Get involved: Participate in Chamber events to address your business goals

    - Work the website: Use the Chamber Website for your advantage An overview of all membership benefits, including some new opportunities
