Public Safety Forum

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce presents the First Annual Wicomico County Public Safety Forum and Luncheon, presented by the Pohanka Automotive Group, on Thursday April 11, 2019 at 11:30AM at  Dove Pointe in Salisbury Maryland. The forum will feature area Chiefs of Police, Fire Department officials, the Wicomico office of the States Attorney and the Wicomico County Sherriff. This panel of public safety officials will discuss the state of the regions public safety conditions, resources, trends, and answer questions on a variety of related topics. This is a not to be missed forum for business leaders and citizens. Tickets are just $25.00 for Chamber members and $35.00 for non-members which includes a full luncheon. Join us on May 7 at 9 AM for an overview of the Department of Labor and Industry to gain invaluable information for your small or large business.

The Department of Labor and Industry is one of five Divisions that comprise the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR). The DLI protects and promotes the health, safety and employment rights of Maryland employers, employees and citizens.

Labor and Industry is one of five Divisions that comprise the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR).  DLI has five distinct operating Units, Safety Inspection, Employment Standards, Prevailing/Living Wage, Worker Classification, Building Codes and Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH), that regulate and enforce Maryland regulations and laws pertaining to these subject matters.

This workshop, including comments from Commissioner Matthew Helminiak, is intended to give an overview of the Division that includes a deeper dive into the subject matters, and make it easier for businesses to navigate DLI and state government as a whole.

General Membership Luncheon

In December 2018 for the first time in almost 100 years, Hemp was removed from the purview of the DEA and placed under the regulation of the Department of Agriculture, just like any other traditional crop. The immediate and future ramifications of this landmark decision are vast. Hemp touches many consumer product markets and has shown great promise in terms of being a subtainable and green alternative to many items we use today.

Topics to be dicussed:

1) History of the Hemp plant both internationally and domestic
2) Dive into the economics of hemp (Cultivation, Processing, Finished Products)
3) Explain the current legal environment, dive into the FDA’s participation in Hemp Wellness Products
4) End with a forecast for the Hemp industry over the next 5-10 years for both Maryland and the United States
