General Membership Luncheon

 

 

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce will host its December General Membership Luncheon featuring Ashley Duckman, Vice President of Government Affairs, Maryland Chamber of Commerce. 

As the VP, she leads advocacy efforts on behalf of the 4,500+ members of the Maryland Chamber before the Maryland General Assembly and on the federal level.

Duckman develops, leads, and executes the legislative strategy of the organization and maintains positive working relationships with key elected officials and members of the Administration in order to build a better understanding of and appreciation for business issues.

Join us as she reviews the upcoming 2020 Maryland General Assembly Session and hear more about:


  • legislation that could harm Maryland businesses
  • updates on implications of Kirwan funding sources
  • what the Chamber and our members can do to mobilize and have our voices heard in Annapolis

This luncheon is open to all Chamber members and the general public.

A team of math coaches from Wicomico County public schools will unravel the mysteries of the "new math" being taught in Maryland public schools, empowering parents or grandparents to help with math homework and other assignments. Winter Institute classes are 90 minutes long, cost $3 per person and continue through Friday, Jan. 24.

  • Kickstart your work week with Business Before Hours (BBH). These gatherings occur on the first and third Mondays of each month from 8:00 AM - 9:15 AM on the second floor of the SVN - Miller Commercial Real Estate, 206 E. Main Street, Salisbury. 
  • Business Before Hours meetings include structured member introductions, an exchange of business needs, and open networking activities.
  • All current members and their guests are welcome to attend BBH. NO NEED TO RSVP.
  • After attending BBH, you may want to connect with a SACC Lead Share group. These traditional referral networking groups offer exclusive access to other business professionals who may have the connection you are seeking.

Join local birders, Ward Museun staff, and SU students and faculty as they collect data on local migrating bird population and submit that data into the Cornell Lab of Ornithology‘s eBird citizen science program. eBird provides the opportunity to collect real data for real scientific purposes. The need for this data is particularly great on the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, where numerous birds live, yet limited eBird data is collected.

Lone Star Championship Rodeo

Lone Star Championship Rodeo
The Lone Star Championship Rodeo returns to the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25 with a full rodeo lineup, including bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls breakaway roping, team roping, cowgirls barrel racing and - of course - Brahma bull riding. The rodeo is co-sanctioned with the American Professional Rodeo Association and features professional and amateur cowboys and cowgirls from all over the region.

Specialty acts include hilarious rodeo clown Austin Sanders and fancy trick and Roman riders Jessica Fowlkes and Oralee Madison.

Events for kids ages 10 & under start around 7 p.m. before the rodeo kick-off at 7:30 p.m. Kids can participate in the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl contest and gold rush each night.

VIP Experience

The VIP experience includes seats on the ground floor and the chance to get up close and personal with the livestock and cowboys. VIPs can take advantage of early entry starting at 5:30 p.m. to get a tour of the bucking chutes and learn about roping events. Guests will also hear about the myths of the rodeo world and learn how good the animals have it on the rodeo trail. The experience includes a chance to meet the specialty acts, contestants and riders and get autographs and pictures. VIPs will also receive a score sheet to follow the action all night long. VIP tours will end promptly at 6:45 p.m. each night.

Concessions and shopping are available on site.

2020 State of the Wicomico County Public Schools

 

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 2020 State of the Schools luncheon January 27, at 11:30 a.m. at Parkside High School, presented by First Shore Federal and Comcast.

 

The luncheon is an opportunity to hear an address by Superintendent of Wicomico County Public Schools, Donna Hanlin. Hanlin will discuss achievements and areas in need of improvement throughout the county, as well as plans for success in the upcoming future. 

 

This event is open to the public and will be catered by the Wicomico County CTE students.

 

Tickets to attend are $25 for SACC members and $35 for future members.

 

Table sponsorships are available for $300.

Aging Into Medicare

If you are getting ready to turn 65 in the next 6 months or will be going on Medicare soon, MAC’s new class, “Aging Into Medicare,” is for you!

Discussion will include how Medicare works, what it covers and when to apply.

The free class is presented by MAC’s State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) staff, and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
