2023 Installation Luncheon

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes all Lower Shore business owners to the 2022 Installation Luncheon on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the Hampton Inn Salisbury.

James “Bo” McAllister, Clerk of the Court for Wicomico County, will officiate the swearing in ceremony of the 2023 Board Members and Voting Council Members.

Tickets are $30 for members and $40 for future members.

Sponsorships are available for $300 and include a reserved table for 8, recognition on signage, slide presentation, and on social media.

Winter Institute: Retirement Bootcamp

Planning for retirement can be tricky, it’s full of twists, turns, and not nearly enough road signs. Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a map, or maybe a checklist for planning a successful retirement? Robert Jeter from InFocus Financial Advisors in Salisbury will present this retirement planning seminar which is designed to educate those who are nearing retirement or who have already retired. The goal is to help make people aware of the challenges in retirement and teach them suitable ways to prepare and overcome them.

The January General Membership Luncheon will feature Mary D. Kane, President & CEO, Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

Beginning in January, lawmakers will convene in Annapolis to consider legislative proposals –  including many that will impact business. Kane will offer a preview of the 2023 Maryland General Assembly Session.

A proven leader in state, federal and global organizations, Kane joined the Maryland Chamber of Commerce as President & CEO in October 2021. 

Kane has a rich professional history, most recently at the U.S. State Department as Director of the National Museum of American Diplomacy. An attorney, she also served as Secretary of State in Maryland from 2003-2007 and as Executive Director at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 2008-2011.

Spaghetti Dinner

Do you love spaghetti?

Meuse VFW Post 194 will hold a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the post, located at 821 East William Street in Salisbury.

The cost is $12 for spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, mega salad bar, dessert, and drink. Proceeds will benefit MAC programs for local seniors.

The meal will be available to eat in or carry out. Those ordering five or more carryout meals are asked to call MAC for pick-up times.

Tickets are available on the MAC website at www.macinc.org, or by stopping by MAC at 909 Progress Circle in Salisbury.
Also planned are basket raffles and a 50/50 raffle.

Jennifer Givhan Poetry Reading

Virtual poetry reading to be held Jan. 30

Wor-Wic Community College is inviting the public to a free virtual poetry reading with Jennifer Givhan on Monday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., via Zoom.

Givhan is a Mexican-American and indigenous poet, novelist and transformational coach from the southwestern desert and the recipient of a poetry fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She has a master’s degree from California State University Fullerton and a master in fine arts from Warren Wilson College in Ashville, N.C. She is the author of five full-length poetry collections, including “Rosa’s Einstein” and her most recent collection, “Belly to the Brutal.” Her novel “Trinity Sight” won the 2020 Southwest Book Award.
