General Membership Luncheon

Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie Dykes will be the featured speaker at the SACC February 17, 2022 General Membership Luncheon.

 

Join State's Attorney Dykes as she provides insight into the work of and strides made by the Prosecution Integrity Unit. The Prosecution Integrity Unit ensures integrity at every stage of the criminal justice system. Working closely with prosecutors and law enforcement, they prevent, identify, and remedy false convictions. 

 

From ethical obligation training to developing internal checks and balances systems, the unit was created to be proactive in the prevention of misconduct and ensure every community member’s safety and confidence in our criminal justice system.

 

State's Attorney Dykes will also discuss the ongoing challenges with the pandemic and the courts, the latest information on trends in local crime, prosecutions, and her collaborative efforts with state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Aging into Medicare Class

If you are getting ready to turn 65 in the next 6 months, or will be signing up for Medicare soon, MAC’s “Aging Into Medicare” class is for you!

Turning age 65 is a time when major Medicare planning takes place. The free “Aging Into Medicare” classes will provide you with information needed to make your best Medicare decisions, and how to avoid possible penalties and delays in coverage for failure to enroll during the specified Initial Enrollment Period. Discussion also will include how Medicare works, what it covers, and how and when to apply.

The next class will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 5-7 p.m. at MAC.

Registration is required and masks must be worn while in the MAC building. To register for a class, call 410-742-0505, Ext 150.

Business After Hours - MAC, Inc. Area Agency on Aging

2022 will be a year of celebration for MAC, Your Area Agency on Aging, as the agency marks half a century of providing programs and services to help Lower Shore seniors age safely and independently in their homes. One of the five oldest Area Agencies on Aging in the nation, MAC’s mission is helping older adults live with dignity and thrive in their home and community.

 

  • Come learn about all MAC has to offer: from Meals on Wheels, fitness and wellness programs, Aging into Medicare classes, to the Life Bridge Dementia Day Program, support for caregivers and a technology learning center featuring every day devices to specialized technology adaptive devices that help seniors tackle activities of daily living. 
  • Meet many members of the MAC team who possess a real passion for making a difference in the lives of older persons.  
  • Members of the sandwich generation (those raising children and also caring for elderly parents) will learn strategies for coping with day-to-day stresses. Visitors also will learn about the full slate of programs MAC offers to help local seniors live as safely and independently in their homes as possible. 
  • Tour the beautiful MAC facility, including the Caregiver Resource Center’s Technology Center, Education Wing, Fitness Center, Life Bridges Dementia Day Program wing and other spacious rooms where senior center Connections activities are held and many community organizations hold events and meetings. 
  • Enjoy beverages, light fare and passed hors d’ouevres
     

There is plenty of free parking on site. All visitors to the MAC building are asked to wear masks.

Join WSW on Thursday, March 10, 2022 for our 20th Annual Pink Ribbon bingo.

This year our bingo will be held at a new location, Willards Lions Club. Just a short drive East of Salisbury.

Our usual themed basket prizes with Pampered Chef and Thirty-One will be available and adding this year CASH game prizes, raffles and 50/50.

The March General Membership Luncheon will feature Maryland State Comptroller Peter Franchot.

Comptroller Franchot will provide Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce members with updates on the 2022 Maryland tax season as well as the current fiscal health of the state’s economy. In addition, he will share his thoughts on how to best use Maryland’s $6 Billion state surplus.

Those updates will include:

  • Extending the Maryland tax deadline to July 15 and the reasons behind this decision
  • How Maryland ended up with a $6 Billion surplus
  • How Maryland can use that surplus to provide immediate help to people struggling after COVID-19 devastated the economy while also ensuring the state’s overall fiscal health is sound for years to come

The candidates for Maryland State Comptroller have been invited to attend a Q&A session where they will address a series of questions from a panel representing The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Salisbury Committee, and PACE at Salisbury University.

 

The panels will include candidates City of Bowie Mayor Tim Adams, Delegate Brooke Lierman, and Harford County Executive Barry Glassman.

 

Join us as we hear:

 

  • the candidate's views on how Maryland's tax structure helps or hurts the business climate Statewide

  • about the role the Comptroller plays as one of the three members of the State Board of Public Works

  • what changes each candidate will make, if elected, in order to keep Maryland competitive

  • answers to additional audience questions
