The 20th annual Santa Swim event will take place on Sunday, December 7 at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina.  Participants will take a swim in the chilled waters of the Choptank tro raise money for the Care and Share Fund, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping individuals and families in need in Dorchester County.

Santa, Mrs. Claus and their North Pole helpers will be on-site to pass out warm towels to each participant. Following the plunge, the resort will provide a “Survivor’s Celebration” with refreshments including hot beverages, chili, and snacks prepared by the resort’s culinary team.

For those wanting to give back to the Care and Share Fund without braving the chilly waters of the Choptank River, the resort will also provide the “Hot Tub Club.”  People who make a monetary donation to the organization will be able to enjoy one of the resort’s relaxing hot tubs throughout the event.

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay will host a New Year’s Eve celebration.  The New Year’s Eve event will include live music, a live feed from New York City, an adult champagne toast, kids sparkling cider toast, family balloon drop, and party favors. 

The celebration will contain two separate lounges for adults and teens, the adult lounge will contain a premium bar with cocktails and a cigar bar, televisions with college football and a live feed from New York City. 

The teen lounge will contain karaoke, a dance floor, and gaming consoles.  Family activities will include an inflatable obstacle course, laser tag, inflatable slides, roving magic show, and a photo-booth.

The Eastern Shore Child Care Resource Center (ESCCRC) is grant-funded as a child care resource center by the Maryland Family Network. 

ESCCRC is an expansion of an earlier held grant housed at Salisbury University for almost 20 years that served the lower three counties of the Eastern Shore. 

The ESCCRC provides resources child care providers:
 

• a lending library, training opportunities, and coaching service
• to families: assistance locating child care
• to communities: by advocating for high-quality learning environments for children

The newly-acquired counties permit the ESCCRC to support child care providers, families, and the community in all eight counties of the peninsula.

The Lower Shore Land Trust is hosting a virtual workshop for community members interested in volunteering as Land Stewards. This program will introduce the issues relevant to overseeing conserved lands including soil health characteristics, invasive species identification, conservation practices and aerial survey processes and data.

The last 20 minutes of the program will be a question-and-answer period.

Wicomico County State's Attorney Jamie Dykes will be the featured speaker at the SACC February 17, 2022 General Membership Luncheon.

Join State's Attorney Dykes as she provides insight into the work of and strides made by the Prosecution Integrity Unit. The Prosecution Integrity Unit ensures integrity at every stage of the criminal justice system. Working closely with prosecutors and law enforcement, they prevent, identify, and remedy false convictions. 

From ethical obligation training to developing internal checks and balances systems, the unit was created to be proactive in the prevention of misconduct and ensure every community member’s safety and confidence in our criminal justice system.

State's Attorney Dykes will also discuss the ongoing challenges with the pandemic and the courts, the latest information on trends in local crime, prosecutions, and her collaborative efforts with state and federal law enforcement agencies.

The free “Aging Into Medicare” classes will provide you with information needed to make your best Medicare decisions, and how to avoid possible penalties and delays in coverage for failure to enroll during the specified Initial Enrollment Period. Discussion also will include how Medicare works, what it covers, and how and when to apply.
