Youth Innovation Academy: Make a Difference: Create a PSA

What if you had the world’s attention for thirty seconds? What message would you want to say? How would you say it? In an effort to engage our youth and future generations in civic duty and community mindfulness, through creative engagement and current technology, this program will work with students to help craft public service announcements for issues or concerns they see within their community. Students will be challenged to communicate clearly and passionately about an issue of their choice while using the “tools of the trade” including cameras, microphones, laptops, editing and recording computer programs, use of music and sound design, as well as copywriting.

The Make a Difference Project is for the student who has something to say, who feels strongly about something they have seen or experienced in their community, and they would like to make a difference, by producing a video that shares their ideas and feelings with the community at large. The final showcase will be an edited presentation of their video PSAs and it will be available to watch online and will have a special broadcast on PAC 14 television.

Summer Stretch 5K VIRTUAL Fun Run/Stroll/Roll/Walk

Join Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County for our first-ever VIRTUAL 5K fun run/roll/stroll to raise money to continue building homes for hardworking families in need.

Everyone deserves to feel safe at home. And everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to call home. For many families, those who were already struggling with a need for decent and affordable housing, their daily lives have only become more challenging. For others, those who find themselves affected by the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the future is newly uncertain. These are the families who now more than ever need the hand up that we can provide.

For this fundraising event, you can run, walk, or roll (scooters, rollerskates, wheelchairs, strollers, skateboards, bikes, rollerblades, etc.) on your own time, and on the course of your choice. This event can be completed indoors on a treadmill, or outside on a sidewalk, trail, or track, anytime between Friday, August 7, and Sunday, August 30th. This 5K can also be split up into multiple days. All ages, abilities, and fitness levels are encouraged to participate.

There is NO registration deadline! You can register and complete the race by Sunday, August 30th.

Marketing & Media Workshop: Reputation Management

Everyone knows that the reputation of a business is crucial for its survival. Good reputation management is a MUST and can easily help a business to gain trust.

Did you know that 84% of people trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations?

What customers say about your business online goes a long way in shaping other’s buying decisions.

When leveraged, one great review can provide a ton of marketing power. On the flip side, one bad review has the potential to undermine the good.

Join us for the Media & Marketing meeting as the D3 team covers four different elements of reputation management:

  • Managing online reviews
  • Social listening and why it matters
  • Navigating philanthropy in business
  • Owning your media coverage

YP's Lunch & Conversation: A Local Look at COVID19

Join the Dorchester Young Professionals and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) Young Professionals virtually as we discuss the most relevant issues related to COVID-19.

Special guests will be Julia Glanz, Interim City of Salisbury Mayor, and Victoria Jackson-Stanley, Mayor of Cambridge.

Young professionals are having a bit of an identity moment right now. Some, newly graduated, and are facing down an economic recession paired with the vulnerabilities that come with being early in their careers. Some are back at home with family, caught between independence and dependence. And we are all more isolated than usual, trying to figure out how to continue shining at work when no one is physically in the office.

Whatever you are going through right now, your Young Professionals community is here for you. This is an opportunity to connect, receive and give support, and learn ways to thrive during this COVID-19 pandemic. Our moderators bring their experience to the table to support you. There will be time for questions and answers, followed by networking at the end for participants to continue conversations and make connections with other Chamber members.

Once registered, you will receive the Zoom meeting information.
