American Cancer Society Bark For Life of Wicomico County

 
Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

 

This year's event will be held Sunday September 9th at Winter Place Park in Salisbury. We are honored that our event is hosted by Signature Sponsor Eastern Shore Auctions. 

EJ Foxx will be our emcee for the day's events. 

We will have our Walk along with games, K-9 Demo from WCSO, vendors, food entertainment, raffles and silent auction.  

Fun for the entire family! Registration opens at 0830.

Proceeds benefit The American Cancer Society, Relay For Life of Wicomico County

Dogs must be at least 6 months old and current on all shots.

Dogs must be on a leash at all times

Dogs  must be accompanied by a human at least 16 years of age

Dogs must be social  

You must clean up after your dog 

 

Entry Fee is $15.00 includes one Canine and their Human companion . Pre registration is appreciated

American Sign Language Classes Level 1

Want to learn American Sign Language, (ASL) or know someone who does?  Then register for DILA’s American Sign Language Level I, five week course, taught twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 11 through October 11, 2018 from 6-8pm at DILA, 806 Snow Hill Rd, Salisbury, MD. Students will learn to carry on an everyday conversation with deaf individuals.  Role playing and games designed to teach basic signs are used as tools. By the end of the class, a sampling of the skills you will learn are: Manual Alphabet, numbers, introducing yourself, talking about family, discussing the home, office and more. Cost is $225 and includes textbook/DVD, Signing Naturally. If you already have the textbook/DVD then cost is $150. Minimum of 10 students required for class. Space is limited so register early. Falls Prevention Awareness Day

One in four Americans age 65 or older falls every year. But falls don't have to be part of aging! A Falls Prevention Awareness Day will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at MAC.
Featured will be local vendors, refreshments, and fall risk screenings for older adults, conducted by UMES physical therapy students. Also planned is a medication review for older adults, conducted by UMES pharmacy students. For this screening, participants should bring a list of all their medications, which will be reviewed for meds that could be related to falling. Admission is free and all ages are welcome. For more information, call MAC at 410-742-0505, ext. 169. This event is being sponsored by MAC, along with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore physical therapy and pharmacy departments.

WIPE OUT BREAST CANCER WITH PINK WIPERS

Starting on September 24th participating Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations will be selling “PINK” wipers, a portion of the sales will be donated to National Breast Cancer Foundation.  We will doubling our donations to NBCF on all PINK wipers sold September 29th and October 19th. .

FREE Computer Classes


Do you want to learn more about using a computer? Free computer classes are being held Wednesdays at MAC, Inc.

Two classes are offered. “Windows 101: Just Getting Started” is an introduction to Windows 10, and is intended for those with little knowledge of Windows 10. This class meets from 9 to 10 a.m.

“Windows 102; Get to Know Windows Better” will teach shortcuts, performance tips, security search and other useful features. This class is intended for those with some knowledge of Windows 10, who want to learn more. This class will be held from 10 to 11 a.m.

Each class includes 10 to 15 minutes of instruction, followed by 30-40 minutes of practice time.

Space is limited and registration is required. Call 410-742-0505 to register.

No classes will be held Oct. 31, Nov. 21 and Dec. 26.

2nd Annual Deaf Blind Conference

Deaf Independent Living Assoc., Inc. (DILA) and Helen Keller National Center (HKNC) have teamed up again to host their two day 2nd Annual Deaf Blind Conference.  The conference will kick off on Thursday, September 27 at 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm with a pre-conference presentation by HKNC in collaboration with Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) on “Emergency Preparedness for the Deaf-Blind.”  Then on Friday, September 28 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm “Preparedness: Life Span Planning for Individuals who are Deaf-Blind” workshops will be held.  Presenters will include HKNC, Bay Area Center for Independent Living (BACIL), Maryland Dept. of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), Maryland Relay, MEMA and a few others.  Topics will include preparedness for emergencies, preparing for employment, preparing for aging and much more!  Breakfast and Lunch is provided on Friday, September 28.  Vendors will be available to provide resources.
